Pastor Lew has devoted his life to teaching, preaching and pastoring including many years of Bible Religion teaching at Grand Rapids Christian High School and Communications at Calvin College. Pastor Lew’s main work at our church is preaching on Sunday, teaching Bible Study classes and pastoring people by meeting people’s needs.

Brad’s goal at NCC is to create a clearer picture of God to our congregation and visitors. He is married to Sue and they have 3 married daughters and 4 granddaughters and 1 grandson. Brad enjoys spending his free time at their cottage.
Mary Marker
Mary MarkerStaff Manager/Arts Assistant
Mary assists in the Arts Department with all aspects pertaining to Sunday morning services, as well as being the “detail go to girl” for the staff. A graduate of Grace Bible with a bachelor’s degree she has always enjoyed working in ministry. Mary’s passion is music, and she sings in the Celebration Choir and on praise teams. She is married, with 2 grown step daughters.

Beth Dart

Beth facilitates all the adult Bible studies. Beth also enjoy overseeing many other groups such as the Care Team, Prayer Ministry and the NCC Library.
Caleb Szczepanski

As the Youth Director for both the Senior and Junior High School students, Caleb is also a student at Cornerstone University with a major in Ministry and a double minor in Bible and in Sports Management. He enjoys spending his free time by playing sports and going to different trails around the area.
Eric Veeneman
Eric VeenemanArts Director
Eric loves being used by God to unite people through worship music. He and his wife Jessica both graduated in 2015 from Grace Bible College with a degree in Worship Arts and Biblical Studies. In their free time, they love to perform with their band, Sundry. They also enjoy adventures like travelling, camping, and hiking when they can. Any of Eric’s left over time is spent watching or playing his two favorite sports, hockey and golf.

Diane Duimstra is married and has four beautiful children. She has a teaching degree from Calvin College, and she has a passion for music, drama, and teaching kids about Jesus.
Pat Brakla
Pat BraklaPreschool Director
Pat joined New Community Preschool in 2018. She has a degree in Child Development from GRCC. Her experience in Child Development has spanned several years, with 16 years at Spectrum Health, 2.5 years at an intercity center called Building Block and 8 years at the YMCA. Pat loves spending time with her husband Mark, who also is on staff here at New Community Church where they have attended and served since 1991. She has a wonderful pooch named Harley, is mother to 6 children, grandmother to 9 and great-grandmother to 4. Her hobbies are quilting and gardening.
Karen Kohn

Karen reaches out to first time visitors and cares for the congregation by maintaining the church database. She helps individuals find opportunities to use their gifts in meaningful ways. She also coordinates the Usher and Greeter Ministry Karen is married to Ed, has three boys & one daughter in law and enjoys her four grandchildren.

As our building manager Marty oversees the daily activities and events happening at NCC. Along with his part time staff and volunteers, they keep our building looking fantastic! Mark Vandermeer
Mark VandermeerCommunity Recovery Pastor
Dr. Mark Vander Meer has been a pastor for over 20 years and has served in two churches, Lake City Christian Reformed Church in Lake City, Michigan and at New Community Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is also the founder of Community Recovery International, a non-profit organization that reaches recovering people of all backgrounds locally and overseas. Pastor Mark earned his Bachelors degree from Calvin College; Masters degree in Religious Education from Trinity International University; and Doctorate in Ministry from Bethel University. His personal interests are spending time with his family, leading people to the Lord, reading books, and coffee houses. He has been married to his wonderful wife Mary for 28 years, has two sons, Andrew and Nathan, and resides in Grand Rapids.

Mark KirschCommunity Life Pastor and Sunday Morning Children
Mark is the Community Life Pastor. He is involved with Kingdom Kids Ministry and Community Recovery, and oversees Community Groups. Mark graduated from Cornerstone University and Denver Seminary. He enjoys the outdoors and spending time with his family. Mark is married to Rachel, and they have four children. He is always looking for a good place to go fishing, and to hear about what God is doing in your life!
Jessica Veeneman

Jessica plans adult events and facilitates various adult groups. She graduated from Grace Bible College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music. It was there that she met her husband Eric. She is passionate about music and seeing people grow in their relationship with God.

Collette oversees the Finances and Business activity of the church. Collette has one son, Chandler and a red lab, Callaway. Collette loves to have fun and enjoy whatever she is doing!

Cindy VanStempvoortDirector of Compassion Ministry
As Director of Compassion Ministry, Cindy visits and keeps in touch with those who need some extra care and concern. Cindy’s tender heart gives her the passion to be “company” for many who enjoy her visits. Cindy can also be seen in the children’s hallway as she loves and cares for the little ones. Cindy’s compassion reaches all ages!
Brittany Zender
Brittany ZenderChildren’s Ministry Coordinator
Brittany assists in all things Children! From Sunday morning’s “Kingdom Kids” to Friday night’s “Community Recovery Kids.” She plays a major role in planning and teaching the children about the love of Christ. She also is a 5th grade teacher. Anyone who meets Brit, can see that her passion is children, and especially to teach children about how much they are loved, valued and important! She graduated with a double major from Grand Valley State University and continued in Education. She plans to start on her Master’s degree in 2019.

Mark oversees the technology needs for the various ministries here at New Community and helps out with the various campuses as needed. He enjoys spending time with his lovely wife, Pat and their dog, Harley.
